Universal Music Japan recording artist MIYAVI has released a new music video for his latest song – “Long Nights.”
The video is a musical/vocal duet between guitarist MIYAVI and Afghan phenom rapper, Sonita, who has drawn wide critical acclaim for her vocals, fortitude as a Muslim woman in hip hop and also her work as a social activist bringing wider attention to the plight of Afghan families selling their daughters into marriage.
The release of “Long Nights” comes as MIYAVI embarks on an international tour. Several North American concert dates for May have been announced as part of his “Day 2 World Tour 2018.”

MIYAVI is a world-renowned musician, actor and philanthropist, who has focused on bridging cultures across the globe with his music and through his work for numerous humanitarian causes. With the moniker of the “Samurai Guitarist,” MIYAVI developed a very unconventional style of guitar playing – performing not with a pick, but with his fingers in a method dubbed “slap style.”
Sonita was the focus and title of a stark documentary that narrated one woman’s fearless efforts to end child marriage in the name of human rights and gender equity. It was hailed as the best and most popular documentary in the World Cinema category at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, where it won both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award. MIYAVI and Sonita will perform “Long Nights” live for concertgoers on select dates on his current tour.
In addition to music, MIYAVI has been celebrated internationally for his work as a movie actor. His debut role, portraying Imperial Japanese Army sergeant Mutsuhiro Watanabe in the 2014 film, Unbroken, directed by the Oscar-winning actress, Angelina Jolie, was widely praised for its intensity. MIYAVI has continued to explore acting and was recently featured in the 2017 Warner Bros. film, Skull Island. He is presently set star in an upcoming Japanese live-action movie based on the smash hit supernatural action manga and anime series, Bleach.
On the humanitarian side, MIYAVI continues his important work with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, which works to aid and protect refugees, forcibly displaced communities, and stateless people. In 2016 and 2017, MIYAVI visited refugee camps in around the world and helped to spread the message of the ongoing global refugee crisis. In November 2017, he was appointed an official UN Goodwill Ambassador.
